Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Council of Ministers decided, on Sunday, to supply private generators with kerosene fuel “free of charge” during the summer season this year.
This came during the 19th regular session of the Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, during which the general situation in the country was discussed, a number of key issues were discussed, and the topics on the agenda were deliberated upon and the necessary decisions were taken.
The Council of Ministers approved supplying private generators with kerosene fuel, free of charge, as follows:
1- (45) liters, for each (1 KVA) of energy capacity produced, for the months of June, July, and August.
2- The hours of preparation for citizens shall not be less than (20 hours/day).
3- The hours of electricity supply from private generators shall not be less than (12 hours/day), and in rotation with national electricity.
4- A specialized committee shall set an appropriate price for the amperes supplied by private generators, operating times, and monitor compliance with the supply period and price.
5- The Ministry of Finance shall bear the amount of support granted, from the funds available to the Oil Products Distribution Company, from the General Treasury’s share.
The Council of Ministers approved the draft law on the Republic of Iraq’s accession to the Framework Agreement for the Establishment of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) of 2016, which entered into force in 2021. In another aspect of the session’s decisions, the Council approved its referral to the House of Representatives based on the provisions of the Constitution, and confirms the Republic of Iraq’s reservation that accession to the aforementioned Framework Agreement does not mean in any way recognition of the Zionist entity or entering into any relationship with it.
Regarding election preparations and the requirements for the successful operation of the Independent High Electoral Commission, the Council approved extending the Independent High Electoral Commission’s occupancy of school buildings until December 31, 2025, and the Commission’s submission of a plan including timelines for evacuating occupied classrooms and buildings in phases.
In the field of supporting industrial projects and approving their lending mechanisms, the Council of Ministers approved amending its Resolution (24930 of 2024), which includes amending the required percentage to the company’s capital, according to the amended Companies Law (21 of 1997), to become (500%), instead of (300%), in order to facilitate borrowing for companies according to the aforementioned law.
The Council of Ministers also approved the Basra Oil Company’s continuation of the procedures for signing the contract for the (South Basra Integrated Project), in accordance with financial powers, with the Ministry of Finance including the aforementioned project in the federal general budget schedules as an ongoing project.
The Council followed up on the settlement procedures between the Greek company Archirodon and the Iraqi Ports Company, and approved the Ministry of Justice’s proposal to open an escrow account jointly between the Iraqi Ports Company and the Greek company, before a reputable bank, and to deposit the settlement amount, which will be used as a guarantee for the implementation of the settlement contract.
The Council authorized the Minister of Foreign Affairs to approve the identification of imported food items for the benefit of Arab and foreign missions specified in the Customs Tariff Law (No. 22 of 2010), based on the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the amended Customs Law (No. 23 of 1984).
The Council of Ministers approved the draft law ratifying the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the Republic of Turkey to encourage and protect mutual investments in the Republic of Iraq, and referred it to the Council of Representatives in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
