Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned, on Friday, the bombing of the American embassy in Baghdad and the diplomatic missions present in the country, stressing that it is following up with the security services on the progress of investigations to find those involved in this act.
Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its rejection and condemnation of the attacks on the Embassy of the United States of America in Baghdad by unruly groups. In this regard, we renew our keenness to adhere to the sanctity of diplomatic missions and the necessity of not “Her security is at risk.”
He stressed that “the security authorities have taken all measures and are making the utmost efforts to pursue those responsible, to refer them to justice to receive their just punishment, and to prevent any breach of the security of diplomatic missions.”
He added, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following up with the security authorities responsible for the investigation, to find out those responsible for this attack, and we stress that such actions will not affect the conduct of diplomatic work, which Iraq attaches great importance to because of its impact in bridging relations between Baghdad and the countries of the world, protection, and mutual care.” for bilateral interests.”
At dawn on Friday, an official security source reported that the vicinity of the United States Embassy in the fortified Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, was subjected to a missile attack.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that explosions were heard within the vicinity of the American embassy in Baghdad, with sirens activated inside its building.
Later, the office of the official spokesman for the US Embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, confirmed that the embassy building complex was subjected to a missile attack that did not result in human casualties, at the same time accusing pro-Iranian militias of carrying out the attack.
In turn, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, directed all security leaders to pursue the perpetrators of the attack by launching projectiles towards the American embassy in Iraq, and to bring them to justice.
A statement received by Shafaq News Agency stated that Al-Sudani stressed in his directives that targeting diplomatic missions is something that cannot be justified, and cannot be accepted, under any circumstances and regardless of the allegations and illusions behind these shameful acts.
Al-Sudani considered that “tampering with Iraq’s stability, abusing internal security, trying to undermine Iraq’s political reputation, and targeting safe places protected by the force of law, customs, and international agreements are acts of terrorism.”
