The International Maritime Organization (IMO) on Friday called on member states not to recognize Iran’s practices in the Strait of Hormuz.
The organization stated in a statement that Iran’s decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz are unilateral and unacceptable.
The International Maritime Organization condemned Iran’s creation of an “independent entity” to control navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing Western military assessments, that the threat in the Strait of Hormuz remains high, and mines are scattered throughout the vital strait.
Iran had previously warned that the Strait of Hormuz “is not a stage for military displays by foreign powers,” in response to a French-British statement regarding navigation in the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most sensitive maritime passages in the world, as it connects the Arabian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, and a large part of oil and gas exports to Asian markets, especially China, the largest energy importer from the region, pass through it.
