Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters responded on Monday to threats by US President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that passage through the strait is “prohibited” without Iran’s permission.
The Iranian news agency Fars quoted the spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters as saying that “Iran will not allow the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz in any way.”
He added that “Iranian forces will deal firmly with any disruption or insecurity to the movement of ships by the US military, and we will not allow any deviation from the designated route from Iran.”
This comes hours after US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would take control of the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that his country would impose fees in exchange for guarding the strategic waterway.
Trump announced on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz was open to commercial shipping, despite Iran ‘s earlier announcement that it had closed the strait after a ship sailed in an unapproved route and was bombed.
Shipping data showed that the number of vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz fell on Sunday to its lowest level in several weeks, amid renewed tit-for-tat strikes between the United States and Iran and attacks on ships in the Middle East, raising concerns about safety.
