On Friday, informed sources revealed that the governor of Nineveh, Abdul Qadir Al-Dakhil, traveled to the American capital, Washington, to discuss several strategic issues, most notably academic and cultural cooperation, and the financing of service and development projects in the province.

The sources told Shafaq News Agency that the visit includes participation in an official signing ceremony scheduled to be held at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington on December 15, 2025, under the auspices of the Iraqi Ambassador, and in the presence of high-level representatives from Nineveh Governorate, including the US Deputy Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Affairs.

She added that the ceremony will be attended by the US President’s envoy, Mark Savva, the Iraq Research Institute (TARII), the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures (ISAC), and the University of Chicago, along with a number of US universities that are members of the Institute for Research Institute.

The sources indicated that the visit program includes meetings with American officials to discuss prospects for scientific and cultural cooperation, and to support reconstruction and capacity-building projects in Nineveh.

She also explained that these moves come as part of efforts to enhance the province’s international presence and attract external support and funding, which will contribute to restoring Nineveh’s scientific and cultural standing, and opening long-term cooperation channels with American academic and cultural institutions.
