The political parties within the largest bloc are continuing their consultations to formulate visions and positions to ensure agreement among the various blocs, with the aim of reaching a consensus on a specific figure agreed upon by all to assume the position of Prime Minister, form the government, and select the new cabinet. Warnings are mounting about the delay in resolving matters within the largest bloc, and opening the door to foreign and regional interventions, especially since the American side has sent its envoy to Iraq to finalize the political arrangements for selecting the Prime Minister and ensuring the selection of a figure who serves American interests and achieves its goals for the next stage.
Kurdistan National Union member Ghiath al-Surji told Al-Maalomah that “external interference often hinders the formation of the Iraqi government, which necessitates that political parties, through the largest bloc, expedite the resolution of this issue. Parties not participating in the government formation can form an opposition within parliament to evaluate the government’s performance, even though there is no obstacle preventing the largest bloc from forming the new government.” He added that “resolving the formation of the new Iraqi government quickly will spare Iraq any external and regional attempts to interfere in its internal affairs, as any interference will be considered an obstacle to the formation of the next government.”
For his part, political analyst Mohammed Ali al-Hakim told Al-Maalouma that “international and regional developments, in particular, have led America to seek a prime minister who is close to it. The proof of this is the arrival of the American envoy Savaya to finalize the scheme that America is trying to play in Iraq by bringing in a prime minister who is in line with its interests and far from Iran.” He pointed out that “imposing any figure without satisfying the regional and international factors means shaking the internal situation, and this is not in the interest of Iraq or some political forces.” He indicated that “the coming days are pregnant with unexpected surprises, and the position of prime minister has become specifically a regional and international conflict in which complex political calculations and equations are involved to produce a person who can maneuver between the regional and international factors.”
Meanwhile, Sabah al-Akeeli, a member of the Rights Movement, told Al-Maalomah that “the selection of the next prime minister will take time for the political blocs to reach a complete consensus on the candidate for this position. The Sunni and Kurdish blocs, in particular, are still not in agreement on the next phase and the choice of the next prime minister. This matter will require more time to finalize negotiations between the political parties to resolve the issue.” He explained that “the political process, especially regarding the selection of the prime minister, will not be free of deals, compromises, conditions, and gains among the various parties and political blocs from which the new government will emerge, and all of this will require time to complete.”
