Shafaq News/ Informed sources revealed on Saturday the details of the meeting held by the Coordination Framework on Friday to discuss the repercussions of the military conflict between Iran and Israel. The sources confirmed that the framework’s parties concluded that it was necessary to support “diplomatic action” with regional countries to de-escalate the situation.
The sources told Shafaq News Agency, “The meeting of the Coordination Framework forces held yesterday concluded with unifying positions regarding the events taking place in the region and working to calm the situation there through diplomatic moves that will be led by Iraq.” They explained that “the meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the leaders of the Coordination Framework, discussed the security developments in the region and how to address them in a way that ensures the return of calm.”
She added, “It was agreed that Iraq would lead a diplomatic effort with regional and other influential countries to control the tempo of the conflict between Iran and Israel, because the current situation does not permit the outbreak of a new war in the region.”
The sources pointed out that “Iraq does not want to be dragged into this war under any circumstances and wants to maintain positive neutrality and play a real role in proposing understandings and returning to the path of negotiations instead of escalation and the excessive use of force as is happening by the Israeli side.” They expected that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein will begin shuttle visits to countries in the region and countries active in the scene to discuss restoring stability to the region.”
Shafaq News Agency learned earlier that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani will call a number of Arab leaders to seek calm in the region, including the Emir of Qatar, as well as the leaders of Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein discussed regional developments and the repercussions of the recent escalation between Israel and Iran during a phone call on Saturday with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “the call discussed and evaluated the latest developments in the security situation in the region in general, particularly in light of the attacks launched by the Israeli entity against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the repercussions that may result from them on regional security and stability.”
The statement added that the two sides “discussed developments in the internal situation in Iran, the positions of a number of countries regarding this dangerous escalation, and the importance of supporting the negotiating process related to the Iranian nuclear program, and ensuring the continuity of relevant meetings and negotiations.”
According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, the two sides stressed the need to enhance regional coordination and the importance of continued communication and cooperation between Iraq and Saudi Arabia to confront current challenges and protect the security and stability of the region.
