The leader of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Jabbar Odeh, warned, on Thursday, of the danger of the US Ambassador’s moves, Alina Romanowski, towards obliging the government to buy American wheat and neglect all offers.
In an interview with Al-Maalouma, Odeh said, “The US ambassador in Baghdad is pressing for the transfer of the wheat procurement market in Iraq to the US market completely, within the framework of a strategy that will make food security constrained by America.”
He added, “Dealing with the wheat import file from abroad should be away from international conflicts, taking into account the cost and the extent of its acceptance in the Iraqi markets,” stressing that “the country’s imports cannot be from one side without any advantages for fair competition according to what meets the need.” and public interest.”
He pointed out that “America took advantage of the dollar file to impose its agenda in many countries of the world, and we do not rule out that it will exploit wheat in the same path in order to achieve its interests to undermine civil peace in Iraq.”
Many political forces criticize the movements of the US ambassador inside Iraq and consider it a blatant interference and far from the diplomatic paths specified for her in accordance with international agreements.
