a senior State Department official disclosed his country’s position on the mandate of the Prime Minister, National Intelligence Director Mustafa Al-Kazemi to form the new Iraqi government.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East affairs, David Schenker, told reporters that Al-Kazemi “has proven in his previous jobs that he is a patriot and a competent person,” expressing his hope that he will soon be able to form a “strong and independent” government.
The Prime Minister-designate Mustafa al-Kazimi said in a speech to the people Thursday that “the weapons should be in the hands of the government only and confine them to the state.”
In a televised speech, Al-Kazemi said that the main objectives of his government are to fight corruption and return the displaced to their homes.
He pointed out that “الوز the ministerial cabinet that he will present as soon as possible to the parliament with the government program, will be a government that serves the people, a government that services with deeds and not words, and everyone, without exception, bears the responsibility of supporting this government, making its steps successful, and participating in serving the people Noting, “Of course it will not be an isolated government … it will not be a government of closed rooms and secrets.”
