Shafaq News/ The Parliamentary Finance Committee expected, on Saturday, that the Iraqi Council of Ministers will vote on the draft general financial budget law for the year 2023 at the end of this month.
Committee member Mueen Al-Kadhimi told Shafaq News agency, “The total value in the draft budget law has risen to 222 trillion dinars, in response to the demands of the ministries and governorates,” indicating that raising the total value “needs modification by the Ministry of Finance to prepare the final draft of the bill before sending it.” to the Cabinet.”
And he added, “The procedures and amendments that are taking place in the budget law took time, and we need 15 days to complete them,” expecting that the Council of Ministers will vote on the law at the end of this month after completing the final drafting of its draft.
Al-Kazemi explained, “The operational budget amounted to 70% of the total amount, and as for the investment, it amounted to only 30%,” indicating that “the general budget will be sent to the House of Representatives with the beginning of the legislative season, and that the Council needs a maximum of two months to discuss and approve it.”
Since the day before yesterday, Thursday, the Iraqi parliament has entered a legislative recess for a period of 30 days, and it will resume its sessions on the ninth of next January.
It is noteworthy that the financial budget for the current year 2022, which is nearing completion, was not approved by the Council of Ministers and Representatives due to the turmoil that Iraq witnessed after the early elections in October 2021, which escalated to dangerous levels that ended with the events of the Green Zone, with armed confrontations between supporters of the Sadrist movement and the forces. security forces, which claimed dozens of lives and injured hundreds.
After the end of the crisis, with the agreement of the political blocs to elect the President of the Republic and to grant confidence to the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani, the latter pledged that he would present the draft federal budget law for the year 2023 as soon as possible.
