Najaf Governorate announced that the distribution of old biometric cards among voters has exceeded 98%. Rana Taher Yassin, a member of the commission’s Women’s Empowerment Committee, stated that “the commission has conducted comprehensive updates to the devices used in the electoral process, both for verification and for accelerating the announcement of results, in preparation for Election Day, scheduled for November 11.”

She added, “The upgrades included equipping the devices with highly advanced cooling systems to avoid potential malfunctions due to high temperatures or prolonged use. Polling stations were also equipped with special printers to print results and deliver them to political entity observers in the event of a breakdown of the main equipment.”

Yassin also explained that “another advanced technical step was to equip the devices with cameras that capture a picture of the voter’s face, along with their fingerprints, before they head to the polling booth,” stressing that “these updates reflect a tangible development in the commission’s work and its benefit from pioneering international experiences in this field.”

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission’s office in Najaf announced that the distribution of the updated biometric cards will begin in early September.

The office’s media officer, Zaki Al-Ibrahimi, stated that “the distribution rate of old biometric cards among voters in the governorate exceeded 98%, while the office continues to hold training courses for its employees on the use of voting machines.”

Al-Ibrahimi added, “The office has also completed coordination with the agencies supporting the commission’s work, including the electricity and education departments and the Najaf Police Command, in preparation for the success of the upcoming electoral process.”
