The dollar surpasses 140000 tomans... Learn about currency exchange rates in IranShafaq News – Tehran
The prices of the dollar and other currencies continued their record rise in the Iranian market on Sunday, with the price of the US dollar in the free market in Tehran reaching 141,950 thousand tomans.

The price of each British pound reached approximately 191,000 tomans, and the price of the euro was more than 167,000 tomans.

In recent weeks, an upward trend has swept through the currency and gold markets in Iran, and with successive record highs, it has set a new course for rising prices.

In recent months, runaway inflation and rising foreign exchange rates have increased concerns about the deteriorating economic situation in Iran.

This trend has worsened following the return of UN sanctions and the confirmation by Iranian officials of the continuation of the nuclear program.

Over the past year, food prices in Iran have risen by more than 66% on average.

At a time when various financial and economic crises are escalating in Iran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian presented the draft budget for the new year (starting March 21, 2026) to the Iranian parliament on December 23.

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Friday, December 26, that the sanctions, despite their impact on the economic situation, represent a factor for “independence” and “maturity” in the defense and missile industries, and said: “The sanctions have pushed us to move away from a single economy based on oil.”
