The Iranian toman fell against the dollar in unofficial trading on Tuesday, with the US currency rising to 150,200 tomans, according to pricing data circulating among traders.
The currency’s decline comes amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington in recent weeks, and amid signs of increased US military readiness in the region, with the arrival of the US aircraft carrier group Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East.
Overall, this comes in parallel with the pressure of sanctions and the fluctuation of traders’ confidence in the Iranian currency, which lost about half its value against the dollar during 2025. Waves of turmoil and economic restrictions have also pushed traders to turn to the dollar and gold as a refuge.
