A member of the State of Law coalition, Sheikh Haider Al-Lami, confirmed on Tuesday that the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) and its head, Jeanine Plasschaert, are involved in major corruption files in Iraq.
Al-Lami said in a statement to the Maalouma Agency, “Plasschaert received huge sums of money after meeting with some figures hostile to the Iraqi government,” noting that “most of these files are administrative and financial, in addition to their involvement in terrorism.”
He called on “the government to send corruption files to the competent authorities if they are proven,” adding that “the government should have held this organization accountable before it withdrew.”
He stated that “all the Kurdish parties, including the Democratic Party, expressed their dissatisfaction with the departure of the mission and demanded that it remain,” pointing out that “the intervention of the Kurdish parties regarding the UNAMI mission is unacceptable.”
He continued, “Plasschaert’s performance was tainted by many things, especially some of the briefings presented to the Security Council, which were harmful and negative and not in the interest of Iraq.”
