The commission will set next week as the date for announcing the final election resultsThe Independent High Electoral Commission ( IHEC)
confirmed on Thursday that the final election results may be announced next week. While specifying the date for the complete conclusion of the electoral process, the IHEC also explained the mechanism for calculating seats according to the Sainte-Laguë method.
IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told the official Iraqi News Agency (INA), as reported by Al-Maalomah News Agency, that “the Commission is processing the results from polling stations that have not yet submitted their results. These results will be entered into the tabulation center, and the votes from those stations will be tallied in preparation for announcing the final results.” She clarified that “this process is being carried out concurrently with the resolution of complaints.”
She added that “the final results will be announced after the complaints are resolved, possibly as early as next week,” noting that “the announcement of the results is a decision made by the Board of Commissioners.”
She explained that “all decisions of the Board of Commissioners are subject to appeal before the Electoral Judicial Authority within three days of publication on the official website.” She pointed out that “once the appeals process is concluded—which takes seven working days for the IHEC and ten days for the Judicial Authority—we will reach the end of the electoral process.”
She explained that “all votes are entered into a special program to calculate the Sainte-Laguë formula, which determines the seat allocation, and the commission will announce the number of seats.”
Regarding the mechanism for calculating seats according to the Sainte-Laguë method, Al-Ghalai confirmed that “the number of seats is calculated using a special program by entering the candidates’ votes into this program, which then distributes the seats in each governorate with great precision.”
