The Independent High Electoral Commission ( IHEC)
has confirmed that recent updates to its voting equipment software have significantly reduced the possibility of fraud or manipulation during the ongoing elections, according to Hassan Hadi Zayer, a member of the IHEC’s media team.
Zayer told Al-Maalomah news agency that “the technological advancements in the voting equipment included updated voting software and the introduction of new features, most notably the concealment of fingerprints and cameras on the devices, in addition to locking biometric cards for 72 hours after voting. These measures prevent any attempt to use the card more than once or to tamper with the results.”
He added that “the technical problems that occurred in previous elections have completely disappeared this time, positively impacting the speed and smoothness of the electoral process.”
He pointed out that “the law mandates the IHEC to transmit the voting results within six hours of the polling station closing, and the verification process between the manual and electronic counts has proven to be 100% accurate, confirming the integrity and accuracy of the adopted technical procedures.”
He concluded by saying, “The Commission is continuing to develop its technical and procedural systems to ensure the highest levels of transparency at all stages of the electoral process.”
