Shafaq News/ The Independent High Electoral Commission decided, on Thursday, to consider Burhan Al-Nimrawi, the candidate in the early parliamentary elections that took place in October 2021, as a representative in the House of Representatives as a replacement for the expired former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
The Commission stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that the Board of Commissioners discussed the memorandum of the Office of the Head of the Electoral Administration regarding the replacement representative for Al-Halbousi, and decided that the alternative candidate from the bloc to which the replacement member, Muhammad Rikan Al-Halbousi, on the Anbar Governorate list, belongs, is Burhan Nasser Muhammad Fahd Al-Nimrawi, He received the highest votes from the losing candidates for the National Taqaddam Alliance for Anbar Governorate, who received 6,716 votes.
On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the Federal Supreme Court, “the highest judicial authority in Iraq,” announced the termination of the membership of Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of a lawsuit filed against him by Representative Laith Al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his (Al-Dulaimi’s) resignation from membership in the House of Representatives. As a result, the Federal Court ruled to terminate their membership (Al-Halbousi and Al-Dulaimi).
As a result, the Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives decided to officially terminate the membership of Council Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi.
