The cabinet gives Kurdistan three days to hand over its airports to the central authority

The Council of Ministers decided on Tuesday to ban flights to and from Kurdistan after 3 days if the airports of the territory are not subject to the authority of the federal government.
The Cabinet approved on Tuesday the decisions of the National Security Council, which ruled to subject the border crossings of land and air in the Kurdistan region, under the control of the federal government in Baghdad.
The Iraqi government, on Sunday 24 September 2017, the Kurdistan region to hand over all the ports and borders and airports to the authority of the federal government.
“The Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Haider Abadi, presided over a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
“It is impossible to deny that corruption is a serious scourge that has harmed the interests of the Iraqi people, including the interests of our people in Kurdistan,” he said.
The Council added that “the border crossings are the ports of the federal government as well as oil is a wealth for all the Iraqi people according to the Iraqi constitution, so the Iraqi government to the Kurdistan region to hand over all border crossings, including airports to the authority of the federal government.”
