MP Firas Al-Maslamawi revealed on Thursday that the Iraqi government still has the 2025 general budget schedules, suggesting that the delay is likely due to the decline in oil prices, which has led to a large budget deficit.
Al-Maslamawi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the recent war between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Zionist entity contributed to the recent rise in oil prices,” expressing his “hope that this rise will lead to a reduction in the deficit if oil prices continue to rise.”
He pointed out that “the budget depends heavily on oil revenues, making it vulnerable to global market fluctuations.”
He added, “It is likely that the budget schedules will be submitted during the next legislative session, which will begin in two weeks,” expecting that “the budget schedules will be present in Parliament soon.”
It is noteworthy that the budget for the years (2023-2025) was legislated in a three-year formula for the first time in Iraq’s history, but the government has not yet sent its annual schedules, sparking angry parliamentary and popular reactions.
