Nizar Haider, director of the Iraqi Media Center in Washington, revealed on Saturday that British courts are investigating Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of the Progress Alliance, his wife, and 30 of his supporters, including a judge, on charges of money laundering.

Haider told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the British Supreme Court issued summonses for the head of the Progress Alliance, Mohammed al-Halbousi, his wife, and 30 of his supporters, including politicians, a judge, and police officers, to appear before the investigating judge on charges related to extortion, controlling and selling land to Iraqis in Britain, and money laundering.”

He added, “An Iraqi resident in Britain filed a complaint with the investigating judge against a network led by Halbousi, his wife, and 30 of his supporters for selling land to expatriates in Britain, laundering money, and extorting money.”

He stated that “the court will impose deterrent penalties on anyone who fails to appear before the British court judge, and defendants have the right to appoint an Iraqi or American lawyer to defend their clients.”

He stressed that “if the defendants fail to appear before the investigating judge on the specified date, a decision will be made to confiscate their movable and immovable assets.”
