Shafaq News/ Tehran warned Iraq and five other countries in the region on Sunday that they would be “within its range” if Washington used its airspace to launch a military strike.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that his country opposes US demands for direct negotiations on its nuclear program or face bombardment, and is warning its neighbors, who host US bases, that they could be in the line of fire if they become involved .
Despite Iran’s rejection of US President Donald Trump’s request for direct talks, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that it wants to continue indirect negotiations through Oman, a long-standing channel of communication between the two countries .
“The indirect talks provide an opportunity to assess Washington’s seriousness regarding a political solution with Iran,” the official added.
He continued, saying that although this path may be “difficult,” such talks could begin soon if American messages support it .
The official said that Iran has sent warnings to Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, and Bahrain that any support for a US attack on Iran, including the use of US airspace or territory by the US military during the attack, would be considered a hostile act .
The official warned that such a move “will have dire consequences for them,” adding that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had put the armed forces on high alert .
Trump’s threats of military action against Iran have inflamed already existing tensions across the region, amid open warfare in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, military strikes in Yemen, leadership changes in Syria, and exchanges of attacks between Israel and Iran .
Fears of a wider war in the region have also raised concerns among Gulf states, which produce a large share of the world’s oil supplies .
Iranian state media reported on Wednesday that Kuwait assured Iran that it would not accept any hostile action against other countries from its territory .
Iran’s ally Russia said on Thursday that US threats of military strikes against the Islamic Republic were unacceptable and on Friday called for restraint .
A second Iranian official said his country is seeking more support from Russia but is skeptical of Moscow’s commitment. He added that this “depends on the dynamics” of the relationship between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
