The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced the cancellation of technical talks scheduled between Washington and Tehran today, hours after the White House postponed Vice President Jay D. Vance’s visit to Switzerland. The ministry said in a statement that “talks scheduled for Friday between the United States and Iran at the Bürgenstock mountain resort have been cancelled, hours after the White House announced the postponement of US Vice President Jay D. Vance’s visit to Switzerland, where he was to participate in talks with Tehran on the next steps related to the agreement aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.”
A White House spokesman announced early Friday that Vice President Jay D. Vance’s planned visit to Switzerland for technical talks on the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran had been postponed due to what he described as “logistical complications”.
A White House spokesman said in a statement that “the Vice President will not be traveling to Switzerland as previously planned due to logistical complications that have not yet been resolved and relate to the next phase of negotiations.”
The statement added that “final plans for the anticipated technical talks have not yet been finalized, although the US delegation is ready to leave at the earliest opportunity.”
The White House explained that “the logistical aspects of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable,” adding, “We look forward to starting technical talks as soon as possible.”
