Sudanese discusses with an Italian delegation Iraqi debts owed by Rome

Today, Saturday, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, discussed with the director of the Italian company Leonardo for security and defense systems the termination of the legal liabilities of Iraqi debts owed by Italy.
The Prime Minister stated, in a statement received by Al-Maalouma, that “Al-Sudani received the General Director of the Italian company Leonardo, which specializes in security, defense and security information systems, Lorenzo Mariani, on the sidelines of his participation in the Munich Security Conference 2024.”
During the meeting, he reiterated “Iraq’s desire for Italian companies to participate in development projects and partnerships with the Iraqi private sector.”
The meeting also witnessed “an understanding to solve the company’s outstanding problems with Iraq, inherited since the 1980s.”
The meeting reviewed “the recent agreement, which was reached under the committee that was formed following the visit of the Italian Prime Minister to Baghdad in December 2022, concerned with ending the legal obligations of Iraqi debts owed by Italy, and settling any obstacles to the willingness of Italian companies to work in Iraq and contribute.” With development plans and participation in the reconstruction of infrastructure.
