MP and former minister Wael Abdel Latif confirmed on Sunday that the coordination framework is close to finalizing the nomination of the next Prime Minister, expecting the name to be announced next week.
Abdul Latif told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the coordination framework is close to reaching a final agreement on the candidate for the next prime minister.”
He added that “the competition is still ongoing between the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, suggesting that the choice will be decided either in favor of al-Maliki or towards choosing an alternative figure.”
Abdel Latif explained that he “rules out the nomination of Al-Sudani for a second term due to accusations of illegally squandering funds, particularly in the case of awarding bridge projects through exceptions, in addition to his failure to manage financial policy and the serious errors he committed during his time as head of government,” noting that “the announcement of the framework candidate may take place next week.”
