On Thursday, Iraqi state-owned banks began implementing the Central Bank’s instructions regarding the sale of dollars to travelers, after reducing the sales ceiling to $2,000 instead of $3,000.

An informed source told Shafaq News Agency that the mechanism for selling dollars to travelers begins with the citizen depositing the required amount in Iraqi dinars at the branches of approved banks, and then receiving the dollars from the designated exchange outlets at Baghdad International Airport, in accordance with the approved regulations and procedures.

The source added that there is a need to expand the opening of dollar sales outlets in provincial airports and land border crossings, which would contribute to facilitating traveler procedures, reducing pressure on Baghdad International Airport, and enhancing the smooth sale of foreign currency through official channels.

Shafaq News Agency had revealed, citing an informed source, new directives from the Central Bank of Iraq to reduce the travelers’ share of dollars to $2,000 instead of $3,000, while an economic expert predicted that the decision would lead to a temporary rise in the dollar exchange rate, considering it to be part of the measures to regulate the sale of foreign currency and rationalize its use.
