State of Law coalition member Haider Al-Lami revealed today, Monday, that there is no lawsuit filed against Al-Halbousi to punish him for the crime of forgery, as a result of which he was removed from the presidency of the House of Representatives.

Al-Lami told Al-Maalouma, “The Iraqi Penal Code does not punish anyone who commits a sin if no one files a lawsuit against him.”

He added, “Al-Halbousi was dismissed from the House of Representatives by a decision of the Federal Court on charges of forgery, but he was not punished for his actions, because no lawsuit was filed against him on the charge for which he was dismissed.”

He stated that “the person harmed by forgery or any other act must file a lawsuit against the person who committed the crime in order to take the necessary measures in accordance with the Iraqi Penal Code. Therefore, Al-Halbousi, despite his harm to the political process and Parliament, has not had a lawsuit filed against him on charges of forgery, and it may be… There are moves by him to ensure that he will not be prosecuted.”
