A member of the State of Law coalition, Jassim Muhammad Jaafar, explained on Wednesday that the session to select the new Speaker of Parliament will either complement the session in which the candidates were presented for the position, or it may be canceled by a decision of the Federal Court so that the door for candidacy will be opened again.
Jaafar told Al-Maalouma, “The choice of the new Speaker of Parliament will be far from financial bargaining, as the scenario of the last session of the House of Representatives will not be repeated after the spread of the bribery and political money scandal in choosing Shaalan Al-Karim.”
He added, “The parliament session to choose the new president will either complement the one before it, but without a candidate, Shaalan Al-Karim will come forward, or the judiciary may go to cancel it, and thus candidates will be presented again to choose one of them to head the parliament.”
He stated, “The votes that Shaalan Al-Karim obtained during the last session confirm that these votes came as a result of last-minute agreements between the political parties.”
Disagreements escalated between the Sunni political forces over the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, after they presented more than one candidate, which prompted some political parties to pay huge sums of money in exchange for buying the votes of some representatives, according to sources.
