State of Law: No justification for delaying budget schedules

Information/Exclusive:
State of Law Coalition MP Intisar al-Jazairi criticized the Ministry of Finance on Sunday for delaying the submission of the general budget tables to the House of Representatives, warning of a lack of transparency in announcing the projected fiscal deficit for the current year.
Al-Jazaery told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the Ministry of Finance has not yet sent the federal budget schedules to Parliament, despite the passage of more than half of the fiscal year,” noting that “this delay is disrupting the implementation of investment and service programs.”
She added that “the budget deficit rate has not yet been officially determined, given the Ministry of Finance’s failure to provide clear details on this matter,” noting that “it is important to enhance transparency in presenting financial data to legislative bodies and the public.”
Al-Jazaery called on the Parliamentary Finance Committee to closely monitor the issue and coordinate with the ministry to clarify the financial data related to the budget.
It’s worth noting that Iraq has approved a three-year budget for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025. However, the Ministry of Finance’s delay in submitting allocation schedules for the current year threatens to disrupt the implementation of government projects in a number of governorates.
