An informed source confirmed on Friday that US forces have intensified search and aerial reconnaissance operations in four areas of western Iraq, near the border strip towards Jordan and Syria, to search for a military refueling aircraft believed to have crashed yesterday evening.
The source told Al-Maalomah that “the aerial reconnaissance of the American forces and their allies has been on high alert for many hours, searching for the wreckage of a military refueling plane that crashed in western Iraq,” noting that “the search operations, according to the available indicators, were concentrated in four areas near the border strip towards Syria and Jordan.”
He explained that “no wreckage has been found so far,” noting that “initial indications suggest that the crew of the plane perished, which is a great loss, especially since this type of aircraft is estimated to cost around $200 million.”
He added that “the downing of this aircraft represents another bill added to the cost of the ongoing military operations.”
