Silver futures contracts on the Comex exchange, part of the New York Mercantile Exchange, hit a new record high on Tuesday, surpassing the $60 per ounce mark, according to trading data.
According to trading data, the price of the metal rose by 2.77% to $60.025 per ounce at 18:22 Moscow time, before continuing its ascent to $60.28 per ounce by 18:27, achieving an increase of 3.21%.
Silver prices have risen by 102 percent since the beginning of the year, amid expectations that they will continue their upward trend and achieve further gains during the coming year.
This rise reflects the metal’s appeal as a safe haven for investors amidst global market volatility and a significant supply-demand gap. Industrial demand for silver has also increased notably, driven by sectors such as clean energy (solar cells), electric vehicles, and electronics, in addition to its inclusion on the US list of strategic metals.
