Statistics from the Electoral Commission, after announcing the results of the general and special voting and the winners of the parliamentary seats, indicated that the Shiite component, with its various political blocs, obtained 197 parliamentary seats. This imposes a new political equation that leads to drawing the map anew for political alliances in order to form the next government, at a time when political parties confirm that everyone is determined to proceed with the new entitlements and not to obstruct the political process and to move forward in achieving the most prominent goal, which is the formation of the new government for Iraq.
Imran Karkoush, a member of the State of Law Coalition, told Al-Maalomah, “The political reality imposes itself, especially after the elections and knowing the size of the political forces and the number of their parliamentary seats. The Sunnis and Kurds have no choice but to accept the equation of the largest bloc, and it is expected that there will be an understanding between the Sunnis and Kurds, especially since proceeding with the political process according to the realistic requirements requires them to go with what the largest bloc wants, represented by the coordination framework.” He added, “The results of the electoral process have imposed themselves on the relations between the political forces, which have no choice but to unite, come together, and reach an understanding again regarding the next stage, the formation of the government, and the rest of the political requirements.”
For his part, independent politician Abbas al-Maliki told Al-Maalouma that “most of the participants in the elections generally agree on proceeding with the formation of the government quickly, getting things moving, and ensuring the continuation of the political process. The disagreements and divisions between the political parties from the various components are not significant enough to disrupt the government formation process. Therefore, it is expected that things will proceed without the fears that are raised from time to time about problems and divisions occurring between the political parties.” He explained that “the Sunni, Kurdish, and other Shiite parties have one direction, which is the continuation of the political process, regardless of any divisions or tensions. Therefore, there is one goal that everyone agrees on, which is the continuation of the political process and not interfering with it.”
In a related development, Abdul Rahman al-Jazaeri, head of the National Tribal Movement, explained to Al-Maalomah that “the Iraqi parliament, political forces, and all other actors are facing a real challenge from the Iraqi public, especially given the internal and external pressures and regional developments that necessitate everyone expediting the formation of the government. There is also an urgent need for political forces to convene at the negotiating table to finalize the political roadmap for the next phase and ensure the avoidance of any conflict in the coming period.” He pointed out that “forming the government may require more time, which necessitates that security agencies prepare to address any tense situations that may arise in the coming days due to the political repercussions and their impact on the Iraqi public.”
