Shell is preparing to end a century of oil production in Iraq

spokesman for Royal Dutch Shell said on Wednesday that the company engaged in the process of selling its stake of 20 percent in the West Qurna -1 oil province of Basra.
The move comes at a time when the Anglo-Dutch company said it had handed over operations in the Majnoon oil project to the Iraqi government.
The field is one of the largest in Iraq, a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries [OPEC].
A spokesman for the company that Shell’s stake in West Qurna field, run by ExxonMobil, is subject to sale at the moment.
