Today, Friday, July 14, 2023, the security forces closed the entrances to the fortified Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, without knowing the reasons, according to a security source.
The source said, “The entrances to the Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, were closed, and only those with luggage were allowed to enter without knowing the reasons,” noting that “the Green Zone witnessed a heavy security deployment around its walls with various types of security services.”
According to another security source, he said, “These security measures come after calls to storm the US embassy in the capital, Baghdad today, by some armed Iraqi factions.”
This comes after a report by the British website Middle East Eye, which said that America plans to target the leaders of the Iraqi armed factions, headed by the Secretary-General of the “Al-Nujaba” Movement, Sheikh Akram Al-Kaabi, against the background of the repeated attacks on the international coalition forces in Syria.
It is noteworthy that on January 20, three suicide drones targeted the al-Tanf military base in southeastern Syria, which is a base occupied by US forces.
At the time, the American forces said that the attack did not cause significant losses, as the forces there shot down two drones, while the third exploded after it collided with a building belonging to a Syrian opposition group allied to the United States.
