The source told Shafaq News Agency, “Fidan discussed with the Iraqi government a number of files and issues of common interest, most notably the agreement to form joint security committees to assess the security situation in areas or cities near the common border, in addition to discussing the Turkish presence in Iraq and the necessity of withdrawing from all bases.”

The source added, “The water releases and the necessity of returning to implementing international agreements and international laws regarding Iraq’s water rights and starting a new page in this file were also among the files that were discussed during the meetings with Iraqi officials,” indicating that “the meetings also witnessed discussion of economic, military and political cooperation and relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.”

The source pointed out that “the issue of the Workers’ Party, the Kurdish file, developments in the situation in Syria, the ISIS file, and mutual support to prevent the organization from returning were not absent from all discussions,” adding that “Turkey expressed its desire to end the (SDF) file, which has become a source of concern for the countries of the region because it controls ISIS prisons.”

According to the source, the two sides stressed the need for calm in Syria and not to go towards expanding the scope of conflict and war, as it undermines Iraq’s efforts to bring the conflicting parties together at the table of dialogue and peace, noting that the handover of those wanted by the Iraqi judiciary and residing in Turkey in various corruption and terrorism cases, against whom red notices have been issued by Interpol, was present at the dialogue table .

The source continued, saying, “The talks also addressed bilateral cooperation between the two countries to restore calm and peace to the Middle East region and to preserve and expand the common area of ​​interests to serve the peoples of the two neighboring countries.”

The source concluded his statement by saying, “Turkey has expressed its desire to achieve a partnership with Baghdad by establishing giant industrial cities in various fields.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani discussed with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who arrived in Baghdad last Sunday, the latest developments in Syria, Gaza and Lebanon, and unifying the efforts of the countries of the region to support their stability, in addition to implementing the memoranda of understanding between the two countries .

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein also discussed with Fidan the new Syrian situation and the presence of ISIS on the border, in addition to other economic and security issues, most notably the “Development Road” project.
