Saudi Arabia affirmed on Wednesday its support for everything that would enhance Iraq’s interests and its relations with Arab and Islamic countries, ensuring that its lands and resources are not turned into a tool for aggression against its neighbors.
This came during a meeting between Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting to support Jerusalem and its holy sites in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the two sides reviewed the developments taking place in the region, and stressed the depth of relations between the two brotherly countries, and the need to support everything that would enhance Iraq’s interests and its relations with Arab and Islamic countries, in a way that ensures that its lands and resources do not become a tool for aggression against its neighbors, and contributes to achieving development and stability for all countries and peoples of the region.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi cancelled a planned visit to Saudi Arabia late last month, following airstrikes by US and Saudi warplanes on sites in Iraq.
Following that, sources revealed the success of international and regional mediations in creating a positive atmosphere between Baghdad and Riyadh, in preparation for re-arranging the visit and discussing security, economic and investment issues.
