BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abbadi’s chances of staying in office have been severely weakened, Iraqi lawmaker Serwa Abdel Wahid said on Wednesday.
Abdul Wahid said in a televised interview, “The chances of Abadi remaining prime minister weakened, after it was about 80%,” indicating that “the names put forward for this post is unrealistic.”
She added that “the person nominated for the post of prime minister must have the full support of all,” explaining that “the Kurdish parties do not have the ability to get out of their nationality into the national space.”
It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers, had approved the date of the elections, earlier, as approved by the House of Representatives, in addition to the issuance of a presidential decree deadline set on 12 May 2018.
The Iraqi arena is witnessing great political mobility, especially with the approaching legislative and local elections. The political parties started their major alliances in preparation for the elections together, while others began to withdraw from the coalitions that did not take hours to form.
