MP Suhaila Al-Sultani of the Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc asserted on Tuesday that promoting Kuwait’s sovereignty over Khor Abdullah constitutes national treason, emphasizing that the creek is entirely Iraqi in terms of sovereignty, history, and legal rights.
Al-Sultani told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “Those who exploit the Khor Abdullah issue and defend the Kuwaiti narrative are traitors because they are compromising Iraq’s rights and national sovereignty.”
She added, “Khawr Abdullah is located within Iraqi territory, according to historical maps and official documents, and any talk of its belonging to Kuwait is not based on reliable facts or evidence.”
She pointed out that “the Iraqi constitution rejects the surrender of any inch of the country’s territory, and that promoting Kuwaiti sovereignty over the creek constitutes a constitutional violation whose perpetrators must be held accountable.”
The Khor Abdullah issue is one of the sensitive issues that has been raised in recent years, amid widespread popular rejection of any agreements that infringe upon Iraqi sovereignty.
