Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leader in the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that the political path in Iraq is witnessing “dangerous transformations” that affect the will of the Shiite component, noting that the recent steps on the regional and international scene have contributed to changing the balance of power within the Shiite political establishment, which has directly affected the future of the current government.

Jaafar told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the will of the Shiite component began to be gradually taken away during the government of Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, as a result of internal and external pressures that the government should not have allowed,” noting that “the complexity of the political scene is not only related to partisan disputes, but also to the decline in the government’s ability to protect the component’s decision and keep the initiative in its hands.”

He added that “the inclusion of the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement on the terrorism lists was a deliberate step with precise political calculations, and was not merely a technical decision as it was promoted,” indicating that “this step was one of the most important unannounced criteria for the second term of Al-Sudani, and it negatively affected his chances of remaining in office.”

Jaafar continued, “Al-Sudani will not become Prime Minister in the next term, and the matter is over politically, because the alliances that used to provide him with support are no longer in their previous state.”

He indicated that the next phase will witness a redrawing of alliances within the Shia political bloc in preparation for forming a new government, stressing that political forces have already begun developing alternatives to lead the next phase according to new criteria that take into account internal and regional balances.
