MP Saud Al-Saadi, from the parliamentary rights bloc, revealed on Saturday that there are numerous files related to various sectors that will be opened during the upcoming sessions of the House of Representatives, especially issues related to combating corruption and protecting public funds.
Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma that “the Rights Bloc will adopt the vote on the government contracts law as a fundamental step to close the loopholes for wasting public money.”
He added that “passing the law will prevent the misappropriation of public funds and put an end to signing contracts based on the exceptions granted in the previous and current governments,” calling on the Prime Minister to “submit the draft law or request its draft from the Parliamentary Integrity Committee,” noting that the draft has been ready with the committee since the previous parliamentary session.
Al-Saadi pointed out that “any real and serious intention to combat corruption must begin by closing the doors of corruption and closing the loopholes that cause the waste of public money, through the establishment of a sound legislative framework that protects public funds and prevents the disregard for the people’s money.”
He explained that “there are multiple procedures for following up on cases related to public funds, and reviewing files that are suspected of corruption,” stressing “the continuation of work on this path.”
Al-Saadi explained that “the Rights Bloc had previously adopted the opening of the file of Korek Telecom Company and the settlement that he described as unfair and unjust between the Media and Communications Commission and the company,” clarifying that “the bloc revealed a large financial waste in this deal amounting to about 1 trillion and 650 billion dinars, in addition to other files related to it, and was the reason for invalidating that settlement.”
Al-Saadi noted that “the representatives of the Rights Bloc are continuing to work on a number of corruption cases, particularly those related to protecting public funds and holding those involved accountable.”
