On Thursday, a member of the Human Rights Movement, Hussein Ali Al-Karawi, accused the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Presidency of Parliament of obstructing the approval of the budget to achieve personal and partisan projects.
Al-Karawi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, “The Presidency of the House of Representatives bears the responsibility for not setting a parliamentary session to vote on the budget.”
He pointed out that “Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi deliberately disrupted the budget in favor of the Kurds in an effort to obtain personal and partisan projects,” adding that “the budget law must be far from political deals and disputes, as it affects the power of the Iraqi people.”
Al-Karawi stressed that “the Democratic Party caused the delay in approving the budget without any justification, with the aim of extortion and starvation of the Iraqi people.”
A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Raed al-Maliki, had reasons for delaying the approval of the budget due to differences over the specificity of the Kurdistan region.
