Shafaq News/ US Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed on Friday that the United States is seeking to grant American inspectors full access to Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Speaking to Fox News, Rubio said that any future nuclear agreement with Iran must include this clause “to ensure that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons .”
Rubio stressed the importance of “US on-the-ground oversight to verify Iran’s compliance with any potential agreement .”
He stressed: “There must be an American presence on the ground. You cannot say there will not be Americans .”
He added that the United States insists on access to all nuclear sites, including military facilities that were exempt from inspection under the 2015 agreement .
He added, “One of the failures of former President Barack Obama’s agreement was that inspectors were unable to examine military sites, and this is the exact location where the bomb will be manufactured. We know that Iran had a secret program in the past that it did not disclose .”
Rubio also emphasized that the United States “does not seek conflict with Iran, but rather wants to prevent it from possessing nuclear weapons ,” stating, “President Trump does not want a war. None of us do. But we cannot live in a world where Iran has a nuclear weapon,” considering that “it has a clear path forward if it chooses diplomacy .”
He continued: “If Iran wants peaceful nuclear energy, it can do what many countries do: build reactors and import enriched uranium. They claim they don’t want a bomb, yet they want to be the only non-nuclear-weapon state that enriches uranium .”
Rubio stated, “The level of enrichment is not the problem. If you know how to enrich to 3.67 percent, you can get to 20 percent, then 60 percent, then 90 percent, and that’s the level needed to make weapons .”
He said, “Iran must commit to halting enrichment, stopping support for terrorist groups, and ending its ballistic missile program. If they do this, they will be able to grow their economy and attract investment .”
Rubio’s remarks come after Oman announced the postponement of the fourth round of nuclear negotiations, which had been scheduled for Saturday between Washington and Tehran .
The announcement came in a post by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi on the X platform, in which he said: “For logistical reasons, we are rescheduling the US-Iran meeting, which was initially scheduled for Saturday, May 3. New dates will be announced once agreed upon by the two parties.”
