On Sunday, Qatar threatened to retaliate against Iranian attacks and ordered a halt to maritime navigation.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “We condemn in the strongest terms the renewed Iranian attacks on our territory and on a number of sister countries.”
She added: “We reserve our full right to respond in accordance with international law and the UN Charter and to take all necessary measures to protect our sovereignty and security. We stress the need for an immediate and complete cessation of military actions and attacks that threaten the security and stability of the region.”
In addition, the Qatari Ministry of Transport issued a statement urging owners and users of marine vessels to temporarily cease sailing until further notice.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Army announced that they had launched missile and drone strikes targeting a number of American interests and bases in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Oman, early Sunday morning .
In contrast, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the end of the latest round of military strikes against Iran, confirming that more than 300 sites were targeted over three nights to undermine Tehran’s ability to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
