The Kremlin announced on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered a three-day halt to airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, coinciding with the arrival of US envoys Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner.
US President Donald Trump’s envoys arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, earlier on Saturday, in a renewed effort to advance diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Trump announced on Friday that he would send envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Wittkopf to Moscow and Kyiv with a proposal to end the four-year-long war in Ukraine.
Trump said, “I sent Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner, who are brilliant negotiators. They did a great job, and we sent them to see if we could reach an agreement. There may be a good chance of achieving that,” adding, “They have a proposal to end the war.”
US-led diplomatic efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war have faltered in recent months, with Washington shifting its focus to the war with Iran. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has become the worst in Europe since World War II, killing thousands of civilians and hundreds of thousands of soldiers.
