Prime Ministers Advisor - The coalition missions presence will end next SeptemberPrime Minister’s advisor, Hussein Allawi, announced that the international coalition’s presence in Baghdad and Ain al-Asad will end next September, noting that the government is committed to its plan to build up the armed forces and end the coalition’s mission.

Allawi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Iraqi government is committed to the government’s program of building the armed forces, ending the missions of the international coalition, and transferring security relations with the countries of the international coalition to stable bilateral defense relations governed by political, economic, and cultural relations. Therefore, the implementation of the agreement between Iraq and the countries of the international coalition is moving forward.”

He added, “This scene is evident after Iraq reached an agreement with the countries of the international coalition to end the coalition’s mission according to a declared timeframe in 2025 and 2026.” He explained that “this agreement reached between Iraq and the countries of the international coalition regarding the end of the coalition’s mission will end the presence of the international coalition mission at the mission headquarters in the capital, Baghdad, and Ain al-Assad base in September 2025, to enhance the new phase of security cooperation in the field of advice and capacity building for the Iraqi security forces.”

He explained, “This is the government’s vision for creating a sustainable relationship that encompasses all areas, including security. This is what was worked on through a set of methodological foundations that began with the Supreme Military Committee, which discussed the mission of the international coalition. This was followed by discussions on the relationship in the ongoing dialogues to implement the agreement and sustain the bilateral partnership in the field of security and defense with the coalition countries in the form of normal bilateral relations.”

Allawi stressed that “this is evidence of the Iraqi government’s commitment to implementing the agreement on ending the missions of the international coalition and transferring relations to bilateral relations, to return Iraqi-American relations and relations with the countries of the international coalition to the normal relations of the period before the fall of Mosul, and to stabilize relations between the countries under the path of strategic agreements, as is happening with the United States of America within the framework governing bilateral relations under the umbrella of the strategic framework agreement between the Republic of Iraq and the United States of America,” noting that “the phase of ending the missions of the international coalition in Iraq will be completed with its second phase in September 2026.”
