Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed, on Sunday, the government’s orientation towards the parallel economic sectors to oil, pointing out that 80 Iraqi goods have been exported abroad. A statement from the Prime Minister’s media office stated that “al-Sudani received a number of senior sheikhs and tribal leaders in Iraq on the occasion of Eid al-Adha,” noting that “al-Sudani offered Eid greetings to all Iraqis and guests, and prayed for Gaza and its people to end their ordeal due to the brutal aggression, praising the Iraqi clans and tribes for what they represent as a basic social component that contributed to the establishment of the modern Iraqi state.”
Al-Sudani stressed, according to the statement, that “the government faced the challenges of this phase and charted a course for dealing with each issue, setting priorities that reflect citizens’ concerns and were the focus of the government’s work. Many problems were also addressed according to a clear government vision that fully encompassed the entitlements.”
Al-Sudani added, “The work fields are witnessing a resurgence and a redressal of mismanagement and poor planning. They have been put back on track, and there are significant economic reforms underway. We are turning to the parallel economic sectors to oil, activating their contribution to the economy.”
He pointed out that “we have been able to access 80 Iraqi-made goods that are currently being exported,” indicating that “Iraq can be an economic corridor serving global trade and the countries of the region, and the path of development will create a new Iraq.”
He added: “We have affirmed Iraq’s position on various issues, and the independence of political decision-making. Iraq has a major role in the region, commensurate with its status, and we have placed Iraq’s supreme interests in the face of events there.”
He also pointed out that “we have supported, and continue to support, our brothers in Lebanon and Palestine, with complete clarity. No one imposes their convictions on Iraq, and we believe in the partnership between Iraq and the countries of the region.”
