Prime Minister - The private sector is a true partner in meeting the needs of the local marketPrime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed on Wednesday that the private sector is a true partner in meeting the needs of the local market and providing job opportunities for our children. He also pointed to the granting of investment licenses in the housing sector for approximately one million housing units. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s media office stated that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani inaugurated the Construction Cooperation Center (Construction Basket), which was implemented by the General Company for Trading Construction Materials at the Ministry of Trade in partnership with the private sector.”

The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Ministry of Trade and those in charge of this important project to market Iraqi products, stressing that the concept of ‘Made in Iraq’ is a working method for restoring prestige to national industry.

He pointed out that “the construction sector is witnessing a real revolution, whether in ministries’ or state institutions’ projects, or at the investment level,” explaining that “there is clear support for targeted groups of retirees, those covered by the social security network, martyrs’ families, and employees at this site, which provides various construction materials needed by citizens, at competitive prices and convenient installments.”

The Prime Minister also directed that “a workshop be held between the relevant authorities to find an equation that would enable citizens to obtain a loan and a building permit, while ensuring they obtain construction materials to build a home.”

He explained that “the cooperative approach has been adopted in the work of this government, with the public sector entering into control of the prices of various commodities. We started with food items through the hypermarket, and today in this market (the construction basket) through cooperation between the public and private sectors.”

The Prime Minister also affirmed that “this project aims to provide a product of construction materials at competitive prices and in accordance with Iraqi standard specifications,” noting that “we have granted investment licenses in the housing sector for approximately one million housing units, in addition to other initiatives related to the Housing Fund and the Real Estate Bank.”

He explained that “sovereign guarantees for the private sector have prioritized industrial sectors, and there are facilities for private sector investors involved in constructing various factories,” adding that “we continue to coordinate our work with the Federation of Industries and the Contractors Federation.”

He concluded his remarks by stating, “The private sector is a true partner in meeting the needs of the local market and providing job opportunities for our children,” emphasizing that “this experience will be extended to all governorates, starting with Nineveh and Basra.”
