Abdul Majeed al-Dulaimi, a member of the Sovereignty Alliance, held the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for what he described as “Kuwaiti violations” at the Khor Abdullah crossing. He pointed out that the ministry’s weak performance and failure to take firm positions paved the way for attempts to annex Iraqi territories rich in oil and gas.
Al-Dulaimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma News Agency on Friday that “the Iraqi Foreign Ministry’s silent behavior and lack of action has encouraged Kuwait to continue its violations of Iraqi sovereignty, particularly in the Khor Abdullah area, which lies on an oil lake of strategic and economic importance to the country.”
He added, “The Iraqi Foreign Ministry is required today to take serious steps and file an official complaint with international bodies to halt these violations.” He emphasized that “the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry has moved effectively to gain Arab and international support, despite its weak legal position, while the Iraqi Foreign Ministry has not activated its tools despite the legitimacy of its demands.”
Al-Dulaimi called on the central government to “open an urgent investigation into the Kuwaiti violations and to utilize all legal and diplomatic means to restore full Iraqi rights and ensure the full operation of the Khor Abdullah crossing under Iraqi sovereignty.”
