State of Law Coalition member Abdul Rahman al-Jazairi confirmed on Wednesday that the Kurdistan Region will not receive any funds from Baghdad except through borrowing, as al-Sudani’s move in this direction allows Parliament to intervene and have its say in the matter.
Al-Jazairi told Al-Maalouma, “The Prime Minister’s powers are linked to the legislative authority, as issuing a decision or imposing on the Ministry of Finance to send funds to the region, Parliament has its say in this regard.”
He added, “Al-Sudani has no other option but to go towards delivering funds to the Kurdistan Region in the form of loans, as this is within the authority of the Prime Minister and in consultation with the House of Representatives.” He
explained that “the financial crisis between Baghdad and Erbil will witness political interventions aimed at resolving it, after the Democratic Party threatened in the recent period to withdraw from Parliament, and this position will be weak, especially since the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will not participate with him in this.”
