Political observer Sami Faisal revealed that three candidates from the Sunni component have been narrowed down to the final list circulating for the position of Speaker of Parliament, stressing that the Sunni bloc has entered a crucial stage to choose the most suitable person for the next stage.
Faisal told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the Sunni Council has effectively moved to the stage of choosing and selecting from a limited number of names, after rounds of internal political consultations,” noting that “the current stage requires broad Sunni consensus to avoid deepening the disputes.”
He added that “there are political figures who are trying to seize the presidency of parliament through narrow understandings or political pressures,” noting that these attempts “are facing widespread Sunni rejection within political and popular circles.”
Faisal explained that the rejection reflects a clear desire to end the approach of monopolizing positions, and to move towards choosing a figure capable of managing the parliament in a balanced way, and preserving its independence in light of the upcoming legislative and oversight challenges.
He concluded by saying that the coming hours and days will be crucial in determining the candidate for Speaker of Parliament, with expectations of a unified Sunni position emerging, which will positively impact the stability of the political process within the House of Representatives.
