Nizar Haider, director of the Iraqi Media Center in Washington, revealed on Wednesday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s attempts to secure a second term have failed after the Trump administration was informed that al-Sudani is not welcome and cannot be dealt with in the coming period.
Haider told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s attempts to obtain a second term were disappointing after the Trump administration rejected Al-Sudani’s efforts, despite the intervention of foreign countries that have good relations with the new administration. However, there is insistence and consensus that Al-Sudani is not welcome and cannot be dealt with in the coming period.”
He added that “Al-Sudani resorted to America’s allies in the Gulf to mediate with the Trump administration to obtain a second term, but the mediation failed due to Trump’s insistence on not renewing the term despite the great concessions that Al-Sudani made to the new administration.”
In conclusion, Haider affirmed that “America is awaiting the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the success of its political system in Iraq, despite the challenges facing the political process.”
